Hünxe Comprehensive School
Project Description
The Anita-Lichtenstein Comprehensive School was established in the mid-1990s through the conversion and expansion of the Geilenkirchen Community Secondary School. An extension building is planned to meet the existing increased space requirements. For this purpose, the existing 3-story building section A in the southern part of the property will be extended. The planned extension building, in its external contour and number of stories, forms a consistent continuation of the existing wing. The required space is accommodated on 3 levels. On the ground floor, another science room, a classroom, and two offices (for department management) will be located, along with the associated circulation area. The two upper floors each accommodate 3 classrooms. Above the corridor on the 3rd upper floor, in the ridge area of the pitched roof, the technical level of the existing building will be continued. At the gable end, the required staircase, which connects all 3 levels, will be arranged. The external appearance of the extension adopts the design elements of the existing building. A combination of exposed brickwork and light rendered facades, as well as multi-story window elements, seamlessly integrates with the existing facades. Similarly, the pitched roof will be continued as a timber construction with tile roofing. The escape stairwell is designed as an outdoor space, massively enclosed on three sides, and covered by the continuation of the pitched roof. The southern facade of the stairwell features a large-format tensioned stainless steel mesh, which on the one hand prevents unauthorized access and on the other hand ensures the necessary escape route via an integrated door. The existing fire department access from Josefstraße will be retained. The design of the outdoor facilities remains largely unaffected. Only the areas affected by the construction of the extension building will receive a renewal of surfaces and planting.
