The new school cafeteria building, designed for approximately 250 students, follows a curved trajectory derived from the existing path and building structure within the school center’s inner courtyard. The internal functional areas are integrated into this fluid movement. The spacious dining hall features a timber frame construction that further accentuates the curve. Service areas are accommodated in the adjoining solid construction. The building’s heating and cooling are supplemented by a solar field. This project represents a pilot initiative by the City of Herzogenrath for solar heating and cooling generation using parabolic trough collectors.
