Wedemark Campus

Project Description

In 2009, the Municipality of Wedemark launched a competition for the new construction of a school center and a central town hall as part of a PPP (Public-Private Partnership) process. The competition was won by Karateka Property Management GmbH, a consortium comprising Alpine Bau Deutschland AG, Deutsche PPP Holding GmbH, and the architectural firm HeuerFaust as general planner, and was implemented within a very tight timeframe. The project brings urban clarity and a calming effect to the previously chaotic urban landscape. Facing Hellendorfer Kirchweg, the town hall features a spacious forecourt, situated next to the bus stops. Its prominent location immediately establishes the three-story town hall as a distinctive public building. The school complex is positioned to form a compact facility alongside the existing and continuously utilized buildings. In conjunction with these structures, it not only adopts their orientation but also achieves urban densification. The Gymnasium and IGS are clearly identifiable as four-story brick buildings with gabled roofs and traditional local tile roofing. Towards the adjacent single-family housing, the building steps down by one story. The existing gymnasium is integrated into the new construction, and green spaces are revitalized.
